Real Estate Expert Takes the Helm as Museum Seeks to Acquire
Miami News/Freedom Tower in November Referendum Ballot
Miami , Fl – William Holly, President of Holly Real Estate Inc., will be elected Chairman of
the Board for the Historical Museum of Southern Florida at its annual meeting on Thursday, April
22nd. Holly has served on the board for six years, most recently as Treasurer.
“William has played an active role in the growth and development of this museum, and his
expertise in the real estate industry will be invaluable to our future growth and success, especially
as opportunities to expand into other facilities such as the Miami News/Freedom Tower arise,”
said Robert McCammon, President/CEO of the Historical Museum of Southern Florida.
In November, Miami residents will vote on whether the county should acquire the Miami
News/Freedom Tower, a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 17-story
building was originally home to the Miami Daily News, but is most famous as the processing
center for Cuban refugees from 1962 until 1974. If it acquires the tower, the county has agreed it
will become the Historical Museum’s new home.
“The museum plays an important and unique role in our community, and I’m honored to serve as
its chairman,” said Holly.
A Miami native, Holly has been active in the South Florida real estate industry since 1990 and is
one of the leading commercial real estate brokers in the area. He formed Holly Real Estate in
2002, after successfully founding the Miami office of Insignia/ESG in 1999. He currently resides
in Coral Gables with his wife, Allison, and son, Hayes.
Founded in 1940, the Historical Museum is a nonprofit organization accredited by the American
Association of Museums and is one of the largest, private, regional history museums in the
country. Its mission is to educate and involve people in the history of South Florida and the
Caribbean. It is currently located in the Miami-Dade Cultural Center in downtown Miami,
housing more than 28,000 three-dimensional artifacts and 400 cubic feet of archaeological
material, and operating one of the most important research centers in the state that owns over one
million historical photographs.
